DISTRICT DUES are $2 per member, in addition to dues paid to WRJ.
District dues have been waived for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 fiscal years, thanks to a generous anonymous grant to WRJ.
We encourage each sisterhood to continue to support the Northeast District Fund, described below, with a minimum voluntary contribution of $20 per sisterhood.
If you have misplaced your annual commitment form, you may use this form.
THE NORTHEAST DISTRICT FUND (NDF) supports our sisterhoods, honors our past, and ensures our leadership development and membership growth in our future. It honors three women who helped lead the District and WRJ: Jane Evans, the first full-time executive director of WRJ (then known as NFTS); Sally Kubie Glauber, first president of District 3; and Helen Levinsohn, first president of District 1. The fund supports programming and the Speakers Bureau, and awards scholarships to promote participation by sisterhoods and individual members at district events.
Asking people to join you for an event, program, or service can be a great way to introduce them to your sisterhood.
Eventually, they may ask, "Why should I join?" Here are some answers you can give them:
- To feel part of a community of women
- For a wide variety of social, spiritual, and educational opportunities
- For personal fulfillment
- To add their support to the projects that sisterhood does for the temple
- To make new friends
- To support their children's involvement in religious school or the youth group
- As an advocate for issues of social justice
- To strengthen their Jewish identity.
It is important that the members of your sisterhood board understand why they joined and can share those reasons with others.
You should have a membership committee and remember that membership is an ongoing process; it is a year-long campaign. For more specific pointers on how to set up a membership committee and a month by month guide to membership, download "Membership Matters" from WRJ's Yammer network. (Yammer access required.)
Every year, Holy Blossom Temple has an Annual Membership Appreciation Tea that is a very well-attended and successful event. They combine the tea with a prize draw from a fundraising raffle. This draw is one of the main fundraisers they do every year. The tea always includes entertainment and gives them a chance to touch base with members and friends they have not seen for a while. Here's one of the flyers for this annual event.
If you have a great example of a paid-up membership event or other membership-related event, email it to us along with a few lines describing what you have done.
